What is DTF printing
DTF is the newest printing method we offer
DTF will complement ours printing methods existing, but DTF also stands out for the customization of sportswear.
But what does DTF mean? What is the process? And which products are best for this printing method? Let's take a deeper dive into DTF printing.
What does DTF mean?
Direct to Film, known as DTF, is exactly as the name suggests. The designs are printed on film using a specialized printer. Subsequently the prints are transferred directly onto the garment using a heat press.
DTF provides a high degree of precision with an exact replication of the original design on a wide variety of fabric types.
How does DTF printing work?
The following steps help us achieve perfect DTG printing, time after time.
Step one: Print onto film
First our talented team of artists took a look at a drawing. Then the drawing will be sent to our DTF printers. Our DTF printers are loaded with a special film ready for printing. Initially, the complete outline of the drawing is printed entirely in white. Then the colors of the design are printed on top of the white layer. This is to achieve vibrancy and complete accuracy of the colors used in the design. The white layer will not be visible unless white elements are included in the design.
Step two: applying the powder
Once printing has taken place, a powder is then applied to the film. This will be coated evenly across the entire design printed on the film. The powder used in the DTF process is essential as it acts as a "glue" that holds the design on the garments once heat pressed. This dust must therefore be looked after.
Phase three: transfer
The entire transfer phase lasts only 15 seconds! The film on which the design and powder method is now printed is inserted into one of our heat presses. 170 degrees and 15 seconds later the film is now firmly attached to the clothes.
Step Four – Film Peeling
Once the drawing has cooled after transfer, the film is removed. This then leaves a new completed DTF application.
What can DTF print on?
DTF is a very versatile printing option that can be used to print on numerous different types and styles of garments. DTF can be applied to cotton, nylon, polyester and 50/50 blends, just to name a few. DTF can also print on both light and dark fabrics.
For example, it can be problematic to apply customizations on polyester using printing methods alternatives such as direct-to-garment printing. Vibrant colors and design accuracy are influenced by printing directly onto a polyester garment. But by using the DTF process, this ensures true design customization on traditionally more difficult-to-print materials.
What interval would you recommend for DTF printing?
As mentioned, DTF gets the best results printing on T-shirts , vest , hoodies , caps, shoppers personalized and more. A DTF is the perfect application for adding a logo, team crest or design.
Is the DTF of good quality?
Yes, DTF produces high quality prints. DTF prints are realistic and true to the original design and are a great printing option for complex projects.
DTF prints are very durable and wash well. This means they don't break or peel easily, making them ideal for heavy-use items like sportswear. Additionally, a DTF print is soft and flexible, meaning it doesn't affect wear or make the garment the customization is applied to uncomfortable.
