In the early years of the sixteenth century Leonardo devoted attention to the study of flight and to the design of a flying machine. He thought of producing a treatise on flight divided into four chapters.
The treatise was never completed but, in the first months of 1505, he wrote part of the Code on the flight of birds, preserved in the Royal Library of Turin, in which he aimed to understand the secret of flight.
Reflection on these texts left by Leonardo led to the creation of Piuma, a writing instrument made entirely of wood, with a dynamic shape, which refers to the quill pen and studies on flight.
Piuma rests in constant balance on its center of gravity thanks to the mirrored steel pedestal through which the mirrored signature of the master is reflected.
